Employment-related stuff, so here’s a sweet car.

Kinja'd!!!

So, I passed my second interview today for a job that has a status I’m not super enthusiastic about, but might be my foot in the door to find a better job later. It’s up my alley with my extensive networking, devices, software development, and product/program management experience, along with all my background in R&D. It’s in a “Center of Innovation” group that defines how a large department inside a very large company does everything around these new technologies, as well as producing documentation that organizations worldwide will use as roadmaps for their own implementations of these technologies. It’s exciting. There is still some negotiation to go tomorrow, but they want me, so I just need to work through that part and I’ll have a new job...

Things are looking up. Hopefully this is the first step to bigger and much better things.

I wouldn’t work for his boss.

Well, I hope this isn’t working for his boss.

Terrifying.

Well shit, let me know if they need an architecture/platforms/hardware guy (that is if you aren’t about to be my coworker.) I have a bad feeling the money is going to once again, not be there, and they’re going to expect me to just say yes to 30% below market.

Possible if you’re in the Seattle metro, but unlikely.

The money thing is my big question now. With what I know now, I question what they offered on the description that much more. They had better at least be throwing in fully subsidized gold or better PPO benefits like all the top employers do around here on top of the upper limit for the range they gave , otherwise I’ll need substantially more money than they’re offering. Su ch a broad mix of skills with so much applicable specialization is nearly impossible to find . The description distinctly underestimated the actual skills necessary, yet they still only got a couple applicants, so they’re probably going to be a bit more willing to negotiate.

Ugh, if it’s the Seattle-based company I suspect now (the one that thinks stack ranking is the greatest thing since sliced white bread,) GTFO. They won’t negotiate on salary, won’t pay fairly, and the benefits are complete trash.

The shining dome’s org has pinged me... numerous times. And every time has been “well we expect you to move to Seattle. But we refuse to pay you even a Cleveland salary.” Do I fucking look stupid?

I’m 95% sure it isn’t the one you’re thinking; I hate that place with a burning passion, yet can’t help buying from them because capitalism and their cloud services are the most mature (personally, for personal stuff, I use GCP, which as a nerd has my favorite free service offerings, but for business stuff it’s the 1980s IBM of services). Their shittiness is among the chief reasons I am leaving my current employer - we depend on them and they’re the worst company I’ve ever had the misfortune of dealing with outside of a customer context, worse than even OSTK, which is the only place I ever walked out of with zero notice (and no new job lined up, but I made a couple calls on the way home, had a new gig lined up the next day , and started the following Monday, so there was no reason to deal with it). I ignore their recruiters.

This one pays market or better salaries in the region, has excellent benefits, and is essentially the country club you go to when you’re established enough to not want to deal with startup crap anymore. The problem is that I’ll be coming in with the wrong badge color...
